Crossing Sullivan’s Gulch

Sullivan’s Gulch is a major topological feature of Portland’s east side, a snaking trench that was the site of a depression era shantytown and later a golf course. ┬áToday, the high-speed high-volume traffic on Interstate 84 defines this space, reinforcing the barrier between the north and south. ┬áMy project explored how an urban development scheme based on the streetcar spine model could project a new neighborhood across the gulf.
