Four Season Habitat

This project was a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity that explored how compact and economical attached dwellings can create a connection to the outdoor environment.  The driving concept in this scheme is the connection with the outdoors across the varying seasons, some of them more hospitable than others.  The major features of the design are a glazed mudroom space, inspired by Japanese engawa, and a central radiant heat core that provides warmth for the whole house.  These features allow for an appreciation of even the worst weather, and offer a new perspective on the standardized, maximally economic home.
